- Emmanuel, who is also the chairman of the forum of South-South and South-East governors also praised leaders from the North and South who worked together to douse tensions following the quit notice which was issued to Igbos by Arewa youths
- Emmanuel’s position was also backed by his Rivers and Imo counterparts, Nyesom Wike and Rochas Okorocha, who both stressed that unity between both regions was important for confronting mutual challenges
Chairman of the forum of South-South and South-East governors and Governor of Akwa-Ibom, Udom Emmanuel, has called for unity between the two regions in order to move the nation forward, Vanguard reports.
The governor made his comments on Sunday, October 8, at the 3rd meeting of the forum which held at the Imo state Government House, Owerri.

NAIJ.com gathers that Emmanuel further commended leaders from the North and South-East who partnered to achieve a peaceful solution to the issue of the quit notice which was issued to Igbos by the Arewa youths.
He stated: “For a greater Nigeria, South East and South-South Regions must unite. The only way we can surmount our challenges is unity of purposes.”
The governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, also supported the position of his Akwa-Ibom counterpart.
He stated: “God will lead the South-South and South-East people to work together. As suggested in the Bible, we will work in unity for the growth of Nigeria."
Governor Rochas Okorocha, in his welcome address to his colleagues, stated that the forum provides an avenue for governors from both regions to work together; and that this would help to remove any suspicions they might have about one another.
The governors who were present at the meeting were the Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state, Ben Ayade of Cross River, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi of Enugu, and the deputy governor of Anambra state, Nkem Okeke.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, said that the South-South and the South-East regions were the most marginalized regions in Nigeria.
Wike speaking during a meeting with 11 governors from the regions in Port Harcourt said there were no 'reasonably' functional seaports and airports in the zones.
