In their expectation of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari as announced by by his media adviser, Femi Adesina, the people and state government of Benue have stated that the visit would provide them a golden opportunity to table their problems to him, Vanguard reports.
The special adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom on media and publicity, Tahav Agerzua in Makurdi, in his conversation with newsmen on the proposed visit, said that the state had long expected the president’s visit. Agerzua said: “The entire country is his constituency and he is at liberty to visit any part of the country for any reason if his schedule permits him.

“For the people of Benue, if you recall, the delegation that visited him after the new year day killings that claimed the lives of over 73 people, told him to visit the state. Several people have also told him and criticized him for not coming to commiserate with the people of the states. So if he has decided in his wisdom to visit and if his schedule permits, then we shall welcome him and table our problems before him.
“He has the constitutional responsibility to protect the lives and property of our people. The constitution expects him to do that and we expect that he shall give account to God for the privileged and opportunity to govern the country and to provide good governance.”

The Punch had earlier reported that Governor Ortom said that President Muhammad Buhari is the head of the nation and he can visit any state in the country whenever he deems fit.
Through his chief press secretary, Terver Akase, the governor said that Benue is part of Nigeria and the president has the right to visit it.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that President Muhammadu Buhari would as from Monday, March 5, begin a visit to Taraba, Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers states for an on-the-spot assessment of the various clashes that had occurred in those areas.
The presidency in a tweet on Monday, March 5, stated that the president was also expected to console communities affected by violence.
