Why do you need to know WAEC subjects for law? Well, if you are planning to enter a university and study law, you will need to pass a range of examinations. You definitely need to know which subjects to choose in order to be admitted into the faculty of law.
What is WAEC?
There’s a number of subjects WAEC recommends for those who are going to study law in Nigerian universities. These subjects will be named a bit later. There’s a range of these subjects and you need to decide how you will combine them. A lot here depends on the demands of the university you are planning to enter because all universities have their own requirements, too.
How to choose subjects for WAEC exam?
Unlike JAMB, which recommends only four subjects for the faculty of law, WAEC has a list of nine available subjects:
- English language
- English literature
- Biology
- Agricultural science
- Mathematics
- Commerce
- Economics
- Government
- CRS/IRS
You are supposed to choose among these subjects and find the best combination to be admitted to law faculty of a chosen university.
The very best subject combination in WAEC for law
The best and most correct subject combinations are made when you know both the demands of universities and WAEC recommendations. Let’s check out what universities desire.
NOTE: The English language is a compulsory subject that’s demanded by all universities in Nigeria that have a faculty of law. Other subjects may vary in accordance with the following:
- UNILORIN, UNIBEN, AAU, OAU, BU, UNN – English literature and two other (any) subjects
- UNILAG doesn’t accept credits in Fine Arts or Music and neither does it accept Accounting. Instead, it accepts Economics or Commerce but never both of them
- UI accepts credits in Sciences
- DELSU, ABU – English literature plus any other Social Science or Arts subjects in any combinations
- UNIUYO, UNIBEN, UNILAG, MADONNA require Mathematics
- AAU, NAU want one credit in a subject from Sciences and a pass in Mathematics
- ESUTECH also requires a credit in Mathematics or another subject from Sciences
- UNIJOS does not necessarily require a pass in Mathematics but accepts it
- ABUAD, NDU, UMYU require credit passes in Mathematics along with other subjects from Arts
In most universities credits and passes are accepted only in case they are received after no more than two sittings. It can be an important issue, so it’s better for you to try to pass everything from the very first attempt. Being admitted to a university seems to be easy but only in case you do everything right and choose the best available combination of subjects.
Have a good luck and share this information with your friends!
