- They were released on Friday night, after Yero managed to pay the sum of two million naira to the kidnappers
- The reporter disclosed that the abductors did not harm his wife and child
The abducted wife and child of the Voice of America (VOA) reporter, Malam Nasir Birnin-Yero, have regained freedom after the payment N2 million, NAN reports.
The abductors, who kidnapped the reporter’s family on Wednesday, February 28, also killed a staff of Federal Road Safety Commission that wanted to help the victims.

NAIJ.com gathers that Birnin-Yero stated on Saturday, March 3, in Kaduna, that the abductors released the victims late Friday, March 2, at Sabon Birni, a village near Kaduna International Airport.
He stated: “When the abductors contacted me, they demanded N12 million ransom for their release.
“The abductors told me that they came to kidnap me but they didn’t find me. So, if I want to see my family, I must pay, or I will never see them again.
“But we pleaded with the abductors and they later agreed to take N2 million which we paid before their release.
“Friends and family were able to source for the money and pay to the abductors.”
He added that his wife and the child were not harmed by their abductors.

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that kidnappers on Wednesday, February 28, abducted the wife and child of a reporter with the Voice of America (VOA) in Kaduna.
The reporter, Malam Nasir Birnin-Yero, said that the abductors, about 30 in number, attacked his residence in Birnin Yero, near Kaduna at about 1.30am.
He stated in part: “They came to my house at about 1:30 am. I was not at home then but they forced themselves into my house and asked my wife of my whereabouts and she told them I was not at home.
They vandalised my television set and refrigerator before taking my wife and son insisting that they must take them to where I was."
