The federal ministry of water resources has revealed that Nigeria has the highest number of persons who indulge in open defecation with an estimate of more than 46 million.
Suleiman Hussein Adamu, minister of water resources, made this known during the official celebration of local government wide open defecation status by Dass local government area under the Sanitation, Hygiene and Water in Nigeria (SHAWN), project held at Waziri Mazadu Primary School at Dass local government headquarters, Bauchi, Vanguard reports.

The minister, represented by the permanent secretary of the federal ministry of water resources, Musa Ibrahim, said over two third of the Nigerian population were without access to basic sanitation facilities. He added that efforts in the past to tackle the challenge produce little results.

Adamu praised the UNICEF and the United Kingdom for supporting the implementation of the SHAWN project in Nigeria, which, according to him, had been implemented in 70 local government areas of the six states of Bauchi, Benue, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna and Jigawa. He further said that the project had been extended to 100 areas in eight states.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported that a health minister in India was bashed by opposition party members for urinating in public.
