- The Supreme Council for Shari’ah says Danjuma should be prosecuted for alleged treasonable felony
- Yusuf Rigachikun believes Danjuma made an unguarded statement asking Nigerians to defend themselves against killers
- Rigachikun says Danjuma's statement is a threat to the peace in Taraba state
The Supreme Council for Shari’ah has reportedly demanded that the federal government prosecute Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff (CAS) and ex-minister, Theophilus Danjuma, for what it called treasonable felony.
The Cable reports that made the demand in reaction to Danjuma’s statement at the maiden convocation of Taraba State University where he urged Nigerians to start defending themselves against killers and alleging that the armed forces had been biased in securing the country from attacks.

A statement from the council and signed by Yusuf Rigachikun, its Kaduna state chairman described Danjuma’s statement as unguarded especially coming from a retired army general.
“The recent call by General TY Danjuma on the citizens to take up arms to defend themselves and the accusation of the Nigerian armed forces colluding in the killing of Nigerians is quite unfortunate.
“It is pertinent to note that for a person of his calibre to openly call on citizens to take up arms because of demilitarisation being carried out by the Nigerian Army is a call to anarchy and also a call to treason and treasonable felony.
“The council calls on the federal government to invite, investigate and prosecute the general for such a most unfortunate statement in the presence of students who are known to be volatile and prone to youthful exuberance.

“His action poses a threat to the peace and stability of the state and is a crime against the state. The prosecution of the general will go a long way for the culture of impunity not to threaten the cooperate existence of Nigeria,” the statement said.
NAIJ.com earlier reported that former Theophilus Danjuma was commended by Niger Delta activist, Annkio Briggs, over his call on Nigerians to rise and defend themselves.
The report quoted Vanguard as saying that the convener of the Niger Delta Self-Determination Movement (NDSDM) in a statement on Monday, March 26, said that Danjuma stood for equity, justice and truth by speaking against what she called ethnic and religious cleansing.
