- A young Nigerian based in America, Chris Emejuru, has withdrawn from the presidential elections in Nigeria next year
- Emejuru had earlier announced his decision to contest for the coveted seat in the 2019 polls
- He however expressed optimism that he will lead the country some day
A young Nigerian based in America, Chris Emejuru, who was one of the young Nigerians that had indicated interest to vie for the office of the president in 2019 has dropped the ambition based on personal grounds.
In a statement sent to NAIJ.com on Sunday, March 4, Emejuru said while he hope to continue to be at the fore-front of championing the interest of the downtrodden masses in his own capacity, he had not buried the thought of leading Nigeria but that he’ll not be doing so in the next election.

Part of the statement read: “Every day I have stepped on Nigerian soil, from United States of America, I have also had to witness the heartache of the Nigerian people. All of this would eventually lead in my decision to aspire for the highest office in the land with such wonderful potential, president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I know, one day, in a true democratically elected process, when that day is to come, if its Gods will, the will of the people, it will pass, but for now, due to personal reasons beyond my control, it will not be during the 2019 elections.
“However, I will be a tireless, fierce advocate, for anyone who tries to interfere with the democratic process and the will of the people.”
He however said he’ll on the sideline continue to press home for a turn-around of the country’s perennial economic and infrastructural backwardness.
“I will advocate for every sector (including the power sector), and every insecurity issue. Never Give Up! Keep Fighting! I will be your voice,” Emejuru promised.
Emejuru had earlier declared his support behind the calls for restructuring by various groups across the country, even as he dismissed calls for secession in some quarters.
In a statement sent to NAIJ.com on the 57th anniversary of Nigeria in 2017, Emejuru said: “Nigeria is one; from the beauty of the north, to the magnificence of the south, to the wonders of the west, united we will remain, as an example for many, for Africa, for the world.”
