Addressing Ekere, Akpabio said: “It is me that asked you to resign as deputy governor. You went and continued your business and even became richer. but not one day did you open your mouth to abuse me.
"Even in your public speeches and in newspapers, I did not find you abusing me. Do you know why God closed your mouth? It was because it was not your time. And God knew that when it is your time, God will still bring men to help you.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that former governor of Jigawa state and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, alleged that Senator Godswill Akpabio was blackmailed into joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lamido, who made this statement while addressing proposed delegates to the national convention of the party, said APC government showed “Senator Akpabio some files and he became afraid” and dumped PDP for APC.
Lamido said: “It is a disgrace for the APC government to give former governor Akpabio the type of reception he was given. It shows that the government is not serious about fighting corruption."
Also previously reported by NAIJ.com was that the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, said that the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning the governorship in Akwa Ibom state in the forthcoming general elections was brighter with the defection of Senator Godswill Akpabio to the party.
This came as Senator Ita Enang, special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly matters, told Nigerians on Sunday, August 12, not to listen to allegations from some quarters that Akpabio, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was a liability to the ruling party.
