The newspaper review for Tuesday, September 25, leads with federal government, ordering recall of the second tranche of the London and Paris Club Refunds disbursed to five states, amounting to about $2.7 billion among other stories.
The Punch reports that the Federal Government will offer 10 state-owned companies for sale to selected investors and the public in the fourth quarter to raise N289bn toward funding the 2018 budget, the Bureau of Public Enterprises said.
According to a Bloomberg report on Monday, preparations are in the final stages to begin the sale of the companies in industries that range from power through aviation to insurance, a director of the BPE, Joe Anichebe, said on Saturday in Abeokuta.

President Muhammadu Buhari had signed a record N9.1tn budget into law in June, with a smaller fiscal deficit compared with the previous year, which the government seeks to fund from sources other than revenue from oil, its main export.
Vanguard reports that the Federal Government, yesterday, ordered recall of the second tranche of the London and Paris Club Refunds disbursed to five states, amounting to about $2.7 billion (N972 billion.)
No reason for the recall was given. The states involved are Delta, Imo, Benue, Rivers and Osun.
But the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has called for an emergency meeting to challenge the action which some of them believe was politically motivated.

Vanguard also gathered that the recall is done directly from the states’ accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
However, many of the states confirmed that the money had already been spent mostly on payment of workers’ salary arrears.
The Nation reports that there was tension in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, yesterday as members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed over an alleged plot by the PDP to buy up Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of Thursday’s governorship election rerun in four council areas.
The police are holding a PDP stalwart, Fatai Oyedele, popularly known as Diekola. He was said to have led some leaders of his party to Ward 5, Unit 17 in Alekuwodo to buy up cards, but the PDP said he was canvassing for votes.
Agents and leaders of the APC and the PDP were in the area to woo would-be voters, an eyewitness said, adding that there was a misunderstanding that led to a clash.

The incident could not be confirmed from the Police as the cell phone of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Command, Folashade Odoro, was switched off.
But APC Spokesman Kunle Oyatomi denied that the party’s supporters were involved in any clash. Oyedele was caught in possession of 62 PVCs, he claimed.
The Guardian reports that an unspecified number of lawyers have been apprehended for forging court judgments in a bid to qualify as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN).
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, made the disclosure yesterday at an event marking the beginning of the 2018/2019 Legal Year for the Supreme Court and the conferment of the prestigious title on 30 lawyers.
SAN may be bestowed on legal practitioners of not less than 10 years’ standing and who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession.

Onnoghen said the culprits submitted forged judgments to the Legal Practitioners and Privileges Committee (LPPC) as requirements for qualification, stressing they would be tried accordingly.
“I have to point out the fact that in the just-concluded exercise, some applicants were found to have engaged in dishonourable conducts such as the forgery of judgments, resulting in their being reported to the police for investigation and possible prosecution. We have to know that if one is not for any reason qualified to wear silk as a judicial officer, he cannot wear it as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,” the CJN said.
This Day reports that Senator Iyiola Omisore, governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the September 22 gubernatorial election has admitted that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are making overtures to him in a bid to secure his support.
Omisore finished third behind the candidates of the PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the APC, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, in the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday.

The commission, however, declared the election inconclusive and scheduled a supplementary poll for Thursday.
The supplementary elections will hold in one polling unit each in Ife North and Osogbo; while two are in Ife South, and three are in Orolu local government area.
Omisore’s acknowledged stronghold is Ile-Ife and his support for either Oyetola or Adeleke could prove to be a critical decider in who wins between the two leading contenders.
