The five governors of the south east geopolitical zone have pledged to begin construction of a road which would connect them all; in a bid to boost economic growth and ease transportation, Premium Times reports.
The development was made public in a communiqué read by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, who is also the chairman of the South-east Governors’ Forum, on Sunday, March 11, at the end of their meeting in Enugu.

NAIJ.com gathers that the governor disclosed that the ring road was part of strategies for the economic development of the zone; and would cover an area of 430 km.
He added that the forum also focused on the south east gas pipeline; and urged the consultant handling the project to follow up on the details of implementation.
He stated: “The forum commended the presentation on the Aba Independent Power Plant Project by Prof Barth Nnaji and asked him to liaise with the secretariat of the forum for further implementation with the presidency.
“A private business enterprise presented to the forum a lottery business proposal in the south-east states. After much deliberations, the forum asked him to reach out to the respective states.”
Umahi stated that the forum would invite the chairmen of the traditional rulers’ council in the five states to its next meeting, so an amicable resolution can be found to their face-off.
Umahi also expressed gratitude to the people of the zone, for the solidarity they showed during the burial of former Vice President Alex Ekwueme.
According to the governor, the region needed such solidarity to move forward.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that all the south east and south-south governors resolved to pursue inter-regional cooperation for the economic benefit of the two regions. The governors also reviewed the current state of the nation.
The chairman of the meeting, Emmanuel Udom, while reading a communiqué, said the the governors in the region have agreed to work together to realign as a people with common cultural heritage and affinities.
Also, the host of the meeting Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Enugu state governor described the meeting as the first in the present dispensation. Ugwuanyi said the meeting would lead to a mutual cooperation between the people of both geopolitical zone.
