Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has said the teeming population of qualified Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) applicants from the state would necessitate the creation of not fewer than 20 universities to meet the needs of university applicants.
The governor made the statement on Monday, March 26, when the founder of the Lords Chosen Church, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, paid him a visit at the government house in Owerri, Punch reports.

He said many citizens of Imo were denied admission every year because of unfavourable policies, such as catchment areas and limited admission spaces.
The governor approved a request for land from the Lords Chosen Church and also gave the church N10m to enable them clear the site of the intended university.
Okorocha pointed out that Imo state continued to lead in JAMB applications with wide margin and that in 2018, the state topped the JAMB application chart with 92,980 applications.

He however noted that out of the vast number of those who topped the JAMB application chart in the state, only about 5000 applicants will gain admissions into the universities because of certain policies and grossly limited slots.
Meanwhile, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has released the results of 1,502,978 candidates who sat for 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The board disclosed this in a statement signed by its head of media, Dr Fabian Benjamin in Abuja on Tuesday, March 20.
According to the statement, the board released the results after viewing all CCTV footage during the conduct of the examination and also after considering reports from its supervisors who monitored the exercise.
