Former vice president Atiku Abubakar, has, for the second time within seven months, paid a private visit to former military president, general Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd) at his Hill-top residence Minna, Niger state on Sunday, July 1.
Atiku who arrived Minna Airport at about 12:15pm drove straight to Babangida’s house immediately and was in a meeting that lasted 3 hours with the former head of state, Vanguard reports.
It is believed, that the meeting is connected with Atiku's presidential ambition.
After the meeting, Atiku was reported to have disappointed supporters waiting to greet him by zooming off to the airport without speaking with them.
The news outlet reports that some of the supporters who spoke with Journalists after his departure said they were disappointed that the former Vice President for deliberately avoided them.
“We are here mainly because of him but we are disappointed in the way he treated us. We will however look forward to another visit before knowing the final step to take,” one of them Abubakar Ahmed said.
On his part, Niger state coordinator for ‘Hope for Atiku 2019’ Mohammed Kutigi however said , “though he did not acknowledge us, it is however certain that he is aware that he has supporters in Niger state.”
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, emerged with a long face, after paying a visit to former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida in Minna, Niger state, on Thursday, December 7.
The former vice president who is seeking the presidential ticket after his recent defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was received by the deputy governor of Niger state, Ahmad Muhammad Ketso, and ex-governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, after touching down at the airport at 10:45am.
