An early goal from Cristiano Ronaldo helped Portugal to a 1 - 0 win over hosts Russia in both team's second game of the ongoing FIFA Confederation's Cup.
The win puts the Selecao one top of Group A ahead of Russia who won their first game against New Zealand.
Portugal started with AC Milan new boy Andre Silva, Manchester City signing Bernadao Silva and defender Bruno Alves.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he rose highest to meet Raphael Guererro's cross from the left.

In the 24th minute, Ronaldo was fouled outside the box but his attempt was straight at Igor Akinfeev who was making his 100th appearance for Russia.

In the 63rd minute Ronaldo had the chance to double the lead when he dribble past three players but his effort from the right was off target.
That was how the game ended as Portugal took one step to qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition.

Later in the day Mexico face off against New Zealand in a bid for top spot. The North Americans drew 2 - 2 with Portugal in their first game.
