Southampton have officially terminated the contract of club manager Claude Puel despite finishing 8th in the just conclude Premier League season.
The French manager led the Saints to the EFL Cup finals but missed out on winning the trophy due to a last minute goal from Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at Wembley.

NAIJ.com reported that Southampton appointed the 55-year-old as their new first team coach last summer following the departure of former manager Ronald Koeman to Everton.

The Saint Marys' side released a statement confirming the termination of Puel's contract.

The club posted: “Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has terminated the contract of Claude Puel with immediate effect.
“Everyone at Southampton would like to express our thanks to Claude for his hard work and commitment this year.
“The highlight of the season was a memorable day at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final, a day our fans will always treasure. We wish Claude well for the future.
