Tragedy unfolded in a Michigan, US, home after a pit bull inflicted fatal head injuries on a three-week-old baby girl.
The baby, named Susannah Jean Murray, was reportedly left alone with three pet pit bulls for five minutes on Thursday, May 25. Her mother, Michelle Murray, had stepped out onto the home's porch.
When another unnamed individual checked on little Susannah, she noticed the injuries on her head. One of the pit bulls also had blood around its jaw.

Although young Susannah was rushed to surgery at a local hospital, she sadly succumbed to her injuries the next day.

Reports indicate that the three dogs were quarantined at an animal care facility. No one has been arrested for the tragic incident.

A local police spokesperson, Terry Dixon, urged parents to be around their infants at all times, or at least take necessary precautions, when they have pets in their homes.

Dixon said: "The breed of the pit bull, by itself, is not enough to condemn it. Any dog can bite. This serves as a critical reminder to never leave a child unattended around a dog."
