What could have been expected to be a happy-after kind of story went sour after a Nigerian man identified as Matthew killed his pregnant girlfriend, Hannah, over a trivial issue.
The deceased hailed from Benue state and had moved in with her Tiv boyfriend a few years before in hope that they would get married someday.
Hannah had given birth to three female children in succession for Matthew. Her hopes were high that the fourth pregnancy will turn out to be a male child and that would make Matthew take the bold step of making her his wife.

NAIJ.com gathered that the 30-year-old lady had spent the most part of her day at the clinic where she went for antenatal care. Upon returning home in the evening, she was too tired to do any chores and decided to postpone them till the following day.
Matthew was said to have been angered by the fact that she left his clothes unwashed. The deceased was said to have tried to make him understand but the former would not bulge. He pounced on her and beat her mercilessly until he drained the life out of her.
One Mrs Precious Igbokwe, a former neighbor of the couple, gave her own account of the story. She stated that Matthew had made life unbearable for late Hannah simply because she did not bear him a male child.
She went on to explain how the man had abandoned her at the hospital when she had her last daughter. He was said to have prevented the neighbors from helping her or bathing the baby.
He had resorted to calling the baby all sorts of names as he claimed the child was not his. The death of Hannah made women take to the street in Lugbe to protest. Lugbe women described the deceased as a rare gem. They used the medium to preach against domestic violence.
A few friends of the deceased talked about her after the incidence. Mrs Felicia Zira had nice words to say about her. “Hannah complained bitterly how her live-in-lover had been maltreating her for years, beating her uncontrollably, issuing threats to her life.” She had advised Hannah to take the case to the Ministry of Women Affairs to stop it from happening again.

Mrs Joy Ogu confirmed that the late woman lived in fear all through her stay with her live-in boyfriend. “In a bid to make life meaningful for herself and children, she engaged in menial jobs in a nearby school, where she sneaked out every morning to clean without the knowledge of her husband, through which she was able to save N10,000 to enable her to set up petty business.”
Ogu said it was sad that Hannah did not live to give birth to the male child she so desired. “Our pastor and some members of the church took her to the mortuary, they evacuated the baby before taking her to the mortuary; they testified it was a handsome male child. What a tragic loss!”
Matthew, the killer has been taken into custody.
