- Dr Ezekiel Izuogu said he cannot understand why Chief John Oyegun, the chairman of the APC, would kick against restructuring
- Izuogu also said Nigerians were frustrated and that this was the reason for agitations across the country
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ezekiel Izuogu, has expressed disappointment in his party over its refusal to consider restructuring.
Izuogu, in an interview with The Sun, also said those clamouring for secession are doing so out of frustration in the country’s system.
He however noted that secession was not the solution, but that Nigeria should run the American system where the states are semi-independent.
Reminded about his party’s stand on the issue of restructuring, Izuogu, who said he attended the last two national conferences, said he was disappointed.
“I am disappointed. I am surprised that my friend, Chief John Oyegun, the national chairman of APC, has been a progressive unionist for many years. I am surprised that he is saying that.

“I am yet to see him on it. I cannot believe in a party that does not believe in restructuring the country.
“If you don’t believe in it, then what are you saying? How are you defending the progressives? Restructuring matters to the progressive person very much.
“If you remove it, you are now putting dictatorship. Whatever you dictate is what you believe in.
“So, I was very disappointed when I saw that in the papers, that APC is saying they don’t support restructuring. What then do you support?” He asked.
Some APC chiefs believe and have argued that the call for restructuring was being championed by some politicians for selfish interests.
But Izuogu said such argument followed the fact that Nigerian politicians are never sincere.
“I am still looking for sincerity in Nigeria politicians. It is the insincerity that is causing the problem.
“They know that there is great joy in restructuring. Restructuring is saying use whatever you have to grow the state and the nation economically.

“In synopsis, it means that everybody should work hard for the good of Nigeria and the world. But if we don’t support it, idleness will be encouraged.
“The account of the federation is money contributed by states.
“In other words, if you want to stay idle and want other states to contribute for you to live life, which is not good for the average common man,” he said.
NAIJ.com had reported that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has rejected calls for the restructuring of Nigeria while advocating for the repackaging of the country.
The governor who made the statement on Monday, July 17, at the 67th annual conference of the Broadcasting Corporation of Nigeria (BON) in Owerri, noted that Nigeria needed to be repackaged to attract investors.
