NAIJ.com gathered that the national vice president of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), South-South zone, has died in a gas explosion.
The late Eddie Bekom, who was a staff of the Cross River Broadcasting Service (CRBS) in Ikom, was said to have died from injuries sustained from a gas explosion, on Sunday, July 16.
It is gathered that the same explosion claimed the lives of his wife and one of his sons, while the other three children are still battling to stay alive at the federal teaching hospital in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.
The fire which killed them and one other neighbour, was said to have started from a cooking gas that exploded in one of their neighbour's house.

The Ebonyi state chairman of SWAN, Chukwuemeka Opara, said:
“In this moment of utmost grief, we commiserate with the entire SWAN family and pray that God gives us all and the entire Bekom family the fortitude to bear these irreparable losses.
We use this opportunity to thank the Ebonyi state government for pledging to offset the entire bills of treating the Bekom family, the management and staff of FETHA, SWAN members, other journalists among others who through prayers and financial contribution.”

Eddie Bekom in hospital reportedly died shortly after his wife and son passed on.
