- Marafa had earlier hinted that he would not participate in the exercise citing plans to compromise the process by Governor Abdul Aziz Yari
- He however said he and million of his supporters across the state will participate based on certain assurances
The Senate committee chairman on petroleum (downstream), Senator Kabiru Marafa has said that he will participate in the All Progressives (APC) governorship primary election in Zamfara state, scheduled for Sunday, September 30.
In a statement sent to NAIJ.com by his media office, the APC senator said he and million of his supporters in across the state are participating based on the assurances that the exercise would be conducted through direct primary mode.
Senator Marafa had earlier hinted that he would not participate in the exercise based on a plan to use the executives in the camp of Governor Abdul Aziz Yari to coordinate the exercise.

He has, however, changed his stance, saying: “We are participating because they have assured us that the primary will be conducted through direct mode. Two, they have assured us that the executives in the governor's camp are not going to coordinate the election.
“Based on these promises made by the party at the national level, INEC and security agencies, we are going into the election. I'm urging all my supporters in across the state to come out to vote for me.”
Expressing optimism that he would come out victorious after the exercise, Senator Marafa said: “The way our party members trooped out on Thursday for the grand rally of my campaign, shows that they are solidly behind me. Insha Allah, (by God's grace), I will win.”
Last week, eight prominent governorship aspirants on the platform of the APC in Zamfara, endorsed the direct primary option for the party in the state, urging the national leadership of the APC to appoint a caretaker committee for the state.

The aspirants include Marafa, the deputy governor of the state; Ibrahim Wakala; a former governor Mahmud Shinkafi and minister of defence, Mansur Dan-Ali.
Others are House of Representatives member, Aminu Sani Jaji; Engineer Abu Magaji, Dauda Lawal and Mohammed Sagir Hamidu.
