The much acclaimed CIES Football Observatory has rated the best players in Europe during this past season with some shocking results.
Surprisingly Paul Pogba made the team set-up in a 4 - 3 - 3 formation ahead of the likes of Lika Modric and Toni Kroos who are hailed as the best in the world.

The French midfielder Pogba is rated 89 by CIES and he is joined in the three man midfield by join Thiago Alcantara (90) and Naby Keita (88.5).

Bayern Munich and Germany number one stopper Manuel Neuer is in goal having achieved an 89 rating, ahead of Sergio Asenjo (84.5) and Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris (84).
Bruno Peres of AS Roma is selected at right-back with a rating of 84, with Juventus star Alex Sandro edging out Marcelo Vieira, David Alaba and Liverpool’s James Milner for the left-back spot.

The center of the defense sees Mats Hummels (87) and Javi Martinez (86.5) start ahead of Man City's Nicolas Otamendi (84.5) and Thiago Silva (86).
The data also ranked Napoli's Dries Mertens as the best in Europe with a rating of 91 ahead of Roma's Edin Dzeko (90.5), City's Sergio Aguero (89.5), PSG's Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich (both 89).

Mertens is flagged by usual suspects Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi with the latter having the highest rating of 93.5, with Ronaldo back on 90.
