- They have committed themselves to chastity and to Christ
Three women in the Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit in the US have "married Jesus Christ" and pledged lifelong chastity.
Theresa Jordan, 40, Karen Ervin, 42, and Laurie Malashanko, 41, took their vows in a ceremony where they wore white and received rings to symbolize their transition on June 24.
However, they are not nuns and are not part of a religious order. They will continue living their normal lives, holding normal jobs and being part of the rest of society.

Through their vows, they have committed themselves fully to chastity and to Jesus Christ. In Catholic terms, they are now "mystically betrothed to Christ."
In an interview, Jordan said: "I felt like it was an opportunity to take my relationship with Christ one step further."

The three women prepared themselves for the ceremony by going through years of discernment and prayer. They all said they felt a calling to take the vow.
