A teenage Nigerian, Ukoma Michael, who is 14-years-old and lives in Imo state has designed a fan that works only on batteries.
The fan works without alternating current but on batteries. It has basic electrical connections that connects the batteries to the control of the fan and they are as effective as the ones from other part of the world. He named the innovation “Blue wind”.
Blue wind can work all day provided the batteries have charge. The components of the fan are locally sourced from recycled materials such as metal grills, aluminium pieces and unused cartons.

This invention is powered by a drive to deliver fans to communities around the world that are without electricity, a solution that has began to serve some rural areas in Nigeria already.
Micheal has a long time goal to create a company that focus on manufacturing fans, aircraft and engine parts.
This project surely marks the beginning of innovation and development in Africa.
