Nigeria's Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday, December 19, said that state governors decided to approve money for national security after a national security summit organised by the National Economic Council (NEC), The Punch reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that Osinbajo made the explanation at the opening of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation/Secretaries to State Governments’ retreat at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said: “It was after a national security summit of the National Economic Council that Governors at their forum decided to approve some money for national security.”
In a previous report by NAIJ.com, Nigerian governors from the 36 states of the federation approved the withdrawal of $1 billion from the excess crude account by the federal government.
The money is to be used in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast part of the country.

Godwin Obaseki, the Edo state governor made this known while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) which was held inside the council chamber of the presidential villa Abuja.
