- Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has the support of a youth group known as the APC Youth Connect
- The youth group described the charges against the Senate president as facetious, jocularly and preposterous
- The group applauded the Appeal Court for its verdict in the trial of Saraki, saying it clearly vindicates the Senate president
A youth group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) known as APC Youth Connect, has commended the Court of Appeal over its decision not to uphold the judgment of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on 15 count charges against Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
The youth group described as “facetious, jocularly and preposterous,” the charges against Saraki, even as they expressed confidence that the remaining three count charges “will be a strode in the park.”
In a statement sent to NAIJ.com on Thursday, December 14, chairman of the group, Oscar Obi and secretary, Farida Suleiman Odangi, urged the Senate president not to be deterred "by whatever antics that is being thrown at him.”

The statement also called on Saraki to “continue to occupy himself with the legislative business and his novel projects, like the Youth Unemployment Round-table he just recently had with various stakeholders and other pro people policies.”
The group said:“We applaud the appellate court for this decision which clearly vindicates Dr Saraki. Our judiciary has really come of age and Nigerians should view this as justice for democracy.
“While we implore the Senate President not to be deterred by whatever antics that is being thrown at him and indeed at democracy, we make bold to say that our judiciary is key to ensuring the success of any democracy. And this decision by the Appeal Court is not only bold but progressive and responsive."
In his reaction to the verdict, Saraki said he has been vindicated by the decision of the Appeal Court to strike out 15 of the 18 charges leveled against him.
The Senate president's legal team also gave a hint that they will appeal the three other charges at the Supreme Court.
“We remain convinced about the innocence of the Senate President on the three (or two) counts because we believe the decision of the Court of Appeal is not consistent with the submissions made by both parties at the Tribunal. Thus, it is our view that that aspect of the judgment will not stand.
“The confidence and faith of Mr. Saraki in the nation’s judiciary and its ability to dispense justice to all manners of people remains unshaken,” a statement sent to NAIJ.com by Saraki's spokesman, Yusuf Olaniyonu, said.
