A clergyman, Jonathan Olaoye, has described the throwing of firecrackers by youths during the Christmas festival as mere fun rather than being scriptural, NAN reports.
Olaoye of the Christ Apostolic Church, Ijomimo Oluwa, Isolo in Lagos, described the practice as being just for fun.

NAIJ.com gathers that the cleric stated that it does not have anything to do with the birth of Jesus Christ.
In his words: “Christmas is a season of celebration, and there is nowhere in the Bible where it is stated that firework is for Christmas.
“It is just for fun and not for Christ.”
He, therefore, cautioned the youths playing with the fireworks to be careful because of the lethal nature of some of the explosives.
However, some youths who spoke on the issue stated that without fireworks, there could be no Christmas.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bayelsa warned the residents of the state to desist from the use of fireworks during the yuletide because of the danger they tend to pose to the environment.
The Corps commandant in the state, Godwin Nwachukwu, stated that this includes ‘knock-outs’.
