The deputy president of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has advised Nigerian government to adopt parliamentary system of government in the country, Vanguard reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that Ekweremadu said that the current presidential system is too expensive and difficult.
The deputy Senate president said this in a parliamentary session of the Enugu West People’s Assembly in Udi local government, Enugu state, where the political leaders from the state interacted with the people.

He said: “The parliamentary system of government will engender more robust debates which always brings out the best in a democracy.”
Ekweremadu promised the people that all their requests will be attended to by federal, state, and local governments.
He added: “You can see that all your representatives are here from the Senate to the House of Assembly, including the chairmen of local government areas and councillors, taking questions and giving answers. This is democracy in action. I can assure you that this is how democracy is practiced for the benefit of the people.
“Our parliament which is the Enugu West People’s Assembly is the best in the world, because everybody who is supposed to be here is in attendance and actively involved in the process. It is face to face; the people and their representatives.”
He further emphasized that parliamentary system of government would make it easier to pass laws and help the will of the masses to prevail.
He enjoined the youths in the state to make use of the opportunities offered by the European Vocational School, which was facilitated by him to learn skills that will empower them economically.

Most legislators and government officials in attendance took questions from the people, including Hon Toby Okechukwu, member representing Aninri/Awgu/Orji – River Federal Constituency; Hon. Dennis Amadi, Representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency; traditional rulers, constituents, among others.
NAIJ.com previously reported that former head of state, Yakubu Gowon, advised the federal government to listen to the agitations of the people as regards restructuring of the country and create a true fiscal federalism to enable Nigerians enjoy durable peace and stability.
Speaking at the 2017 House of Justice Annual Summit at Murtala Square, Kaduna, with the theme ‘Building a Nation of Justice and Peace, Gowon said Nigerians should resolve to live together in peace, through consultation.
He called for a system of government that would eliminate corruption and indiscipline in Nigeria.
