Despite modernisation, some Nigerians and people all over the world still make use of firewood to prepare their meals despite the existence of gas and electric cookers and stoves.
Amidst all the technologies that have been invented, some people still find it very comfortable cooking the local way especially for parties such as weddings, naming ceremonies, graduations, birthday parties among others.
However, in some parts of the world families who have little or nothing to feed on makes use of firewood to prepare their meals as they cannot afford to buy cooking gas or stoves.

NAIJ.com took to its Facebook profile to ask Nigerians if cooking with firewood is a sign of poverty. Aishat Abdulhakeem said that: “Capital NO, foods that is prepared using firewood or coal always taste natural and are extraordinary yummy.”

Martha Oghize disclosed that: “Firewood is more expensive than gas or kerosene but to tell you the truth, firewood is the best for cooking meals cos it brings out the natural taste of the food.”

Another reader said: “If you think cooking with firewood is a sign of poverty then go and price firewood in the market to know between it and gas which will incur more expenses in a month! A trial will convince you that it is not a sign of poverty but of preference.”
