- The battle for 2019 has begun among major political heavyweights across the nation
- The battle is mostly more pronounced in the northern part of the country
- The region is expected to produce the presidential candidates of major political parties
The Sule Lamido Youth Mobilisation of Nigeria (SLYMN), has said it is only a former governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, that would be accepted by Nigerians as a credible alternative to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.
The group stated this in a statement distributed to journalists in Jos, the Plateau state capital on Wednesday, December 20.

The SLYMN opined that it was only Lamido that deserved to fly the presidential ticket of the opposition PDP because “he is a tested and principled Nigerian who refused to leave the PDP during its days of glory and even when it was passing trying moments.”
The national coordinator of the group, Abdulhadi Abdullahi, said it would be erroneous for the PDP to contemplate giving the party’s ticket to “fair weather friends and those who want to reap from where they did not sow.”
He said: “The PDP needs a strong contender who would be trusted by Nigerians and someone who would outperform President Buhari.
“We strongly believe that Sule Lamido had done a lot when he was the Governor of Jigawa where he transformed the state in all indices of development, including education, health, agriculture, job creation and security. This man has what it takes to replicate the same feat at the national level.”
Abdullahi further said the group was reaching out to all the six geo-political zones in order to convince Nigerians “that there is a leader in Sule Lamido.”
Meanwhile, elder statesman, Abubakar Tsav has advised Nigerian youths to encourage President Muhammadu Buhari to go for a second tenure and also vote for him.
Tsav, a retired commissioner of police, gave the advice in his birthday message to the president on Saturday, December 16.
He stated that Nigeria is ravaged by corruption, greed and injustice adding that “only a person like President Buhari who is known for his uncompromising integrity, can salvage this country from the rot we have inherited.”
