Police in Taraba state have allegedly killed some illegal miners during a clash at a mining field in Mayo Sine area of Mambilla Plateau.
Daily Trust reports that the tragic incident happened on Thursday, December 14 when the illegal miners prevented the armed policemen from dislodging their structures.

It was reported that more than 10 thousand illegal miners have operating illegally in the location for more than 10 years.
The illegal mining field had been allocated to a company but operation was stalled because of the illegal miners.
The police reportedly destroyed some of their structures and confiscated the tools they used to dig the precious stones.
In reaction, the illegal miners chased the police away and set fire to a machine owned by the foreign company.
A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity claimed the police in an attempt to stop the rampaging miners opened fire on them killing many while others were left injured.
Meanwhile, The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) declared its commitment to growing the nation’s crude oil reserves and increasing daily national production with a view to boosting the nation’s revenue generation.
Group Managing Director of the corporation, Maikanti Kacalla Baru, stated this during the flag-off ceremonies of the NNPC/First E&P Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 83/85 partnership for marine seismic data acquisition in Lagos, yesterday.
Baru, who performed the flag-off ceremony aboard Marine Vessel BGP Prospector offshore Lagos, said the project would boost NNPC’s drive towards enhancing the nation’s abundant hydrocarbon deposits.
