At least four police officers have been ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen in Numan area of Adamawa state.
Daily Sun reports that the Adamawa Police Command spokesman SP Othman Abubakar confirmed that the four policemen were ambushed and killed in a deadly overnight attack by the attackers.
Othman said the incident is being investigated and the police has yet to identity the gunmen who carried out the shooting.

The report further quoted locals as saying that there was heavy gunfire involving Fulani gunmen and members of the police force which caused panic and mass exodus of residents from the area.
On its part, Premium Times reports that the casualty was higher as six people were killed.
It claimed that the policemen killed were actually mobile policemen and not regular cops.
The Premium Times report also said that the officers were killed while trying to make arrests at Dowaya, a predominantly Fulani settlement.

Mafindi Umaru Danburam, North-East Chairman of Miyetti Allah confirmed that "there was problem in Numan, when some people in uniform attacked those that were taking refuge at Dowaya”.
NAIJ.com had earlier reported that the recent killings in Adamawa and Zamfara states attracted the attention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris.
Mubi and Numan in Adamawa state and Shinkafi and Maradun areas in Zamfara state have been under the siege in the last few days.
IGP Idris ordered commissioners of police and their supervising assistant inspectors to prevent further attacks, beef up security in their areas of responsibilities and carryout discreet investigation into the killings.
