- The APC says there were so many irregularities during the elections that would affect the results
- The party says the results that are set to be announced will be concocted ones
- APC said its rejection was based on its earlier alert about the irregular conduct of the polls on Saturday
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all the 31 local governments in Akwa Ibom state in a landslide victory at the polls held on Saturday, December 2.
A statement signed by the chairman of Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) Aniedi Ikoiwak on Sunday, December 3 confirmed the results.
The statement read: “This statement confirms the announcement/declarations made by the authorised Returning Officers in various Wards and Local Government Areas,” the statement said.
The commission said 12 political parties contested the elections. It didn’t, however, give a breakdown of the votes scored by the parties and their candidates.
“Details of scores submitted by our Field Officers will be made available by the Field Operations/Logistics Department of the Commission,” the statement said.
Earlier, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had rejected the election conducted in Akwa Ibom state on Saturday.
The party made its position known through a press statement released late on Saturday and posted to its Twitter handle on Sunday, December 3.
According to the party, its decision was informed by allegations of widespread violence and irregularities during the election.

The statement, signed by the State Chairman of APC, Amadu Attai, the State Secretary of the party, Effiong Etok, and the party’s Caucus Chairman in the state, Don Etiebet, read: “The party wishes to inform the security agencies, government of Akwa Ibom State, the federal government of Nigeria, and the general public that we reject in entirety any concocted result that AKISIEC may wish to announce to the general public as the final result of the purported local government election.”
It added that no election held on the day.

“In their quest to rig and announce spurious results, all sensitive materials including result sheets were nowhere to be found,” the party said.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported earlier that the APC replied former vice president Atiku Abubakar over his comments that he would defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 election.
The APC national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said President Buhari would easily defeat the former vice president should he stand for re-election.
