- Ife Oyedele accused the PDP of marginalising Yoruba people
- The APC chieftain urged Yorubas to leave the opposition part
- He said the same thing also happened during Jonathan's administration
Ife Oyedele who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state has urged Yoruba people in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to leave the opposition party.
The Nation reports that the APC chieftain spoke on the backdrop of the PDP’s national convention in which Uche Secondus emerged as chairman of the party.

Oyedele who was the Ondo State coordinator of the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation in 2015 said Yoruba aspirants were deliberately schemed out of the race for the chairmanship position to give advantage to another region.
He said: “This should be a wake up call for our people (the Yoruba) in the PDP to move to the winning party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), where fairness, equity and democratic principles are followed to the letter under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“During the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Yoruba were grossly marginalised. The Yoruba were simply left out in PDP’s skewed balancing act. The composition of the government then was as follows: President Goodluck Jonathan, (from Southsouth); Vice-President Namadi Sambo, (North Central); Senate President David Mark, (North Central); Aminu Tambuwal, (Speaker of the House of Representatives, from Northwest); Deputy Senate President Ike Ekeweremadu, (Southeast) and Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, (Southeast).
“The same political miscalculation, which cost the PDP the 2015 elections, is playing out now in the party, an evidence that it lacks the discipline and wherewithal to take over power in 2019.”
The APC chieftain called on Yoruba people in the PDP to follow the footstep of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and tear their membership card. He also urged them to move to the APC.
He said “the progressives hold the aces to fulfil the people’s desire and ambition, while the PDP umbrella is not meant to protect the people of the Southwest”.
Meanwhile, the congress of Yoruba Sons and Daughters within the PDP lashed out at Governor Nyesom Wike, accusing him of insulting Yoruba People.
The Punch reports that in a statement released on Wednesday, December 13, the group said it was annoyed with statement credited to the Rivers state governor that the Yoruba people were inconsequential to the development of the party.
It said Wike’s statement was a reflection of how Yoruba people were regarded in the opposition party.
