Senator Shehu Sani has slammed plan by the federal government to monitor the activities of prominent citizens on social media.
In a tweet on Friday, January 26, the lawmaker representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upper house of legislature, described the move as a waste of energy.

According to him, if the energy for monitoring social media is properly channeled, the country would be safer.
He tweeted:
Senator Sani's tweet followed reports that the minister of defence, Mansur Dan-Ali had directed the nation’s security agencies to tackle those propagating hate speeches, especially through the social media.
NAIJ.com had reported that Ali said special attention should be given to notable Nigerians while tackling the menace.

According to a statement made available to journalists, Dan-Ali gave the directive at a meeting of the National Security Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, January 25.
