Jose Mourinho led Manchester United side returned to winning ways after going four matches without a win as they defeated Sam Allardyce led Everton side at Goodison park.
United were without keymen Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the clash as both strikers succumbed to injury. Anthony Martial that led the United attack in the absence of Lukaku.

It was Everton that came closest to opening the scoring in the 24th minute as Oumar Niasse found some space inside the box and blasted in a strike, but the shot is brilliantly blocked by one of the United players sliding in resulting to a corner kick for Everton.

As at the end of the first 45 minute both teams head to the dressing room with the score goalless.

Jose Mourinho side finally got the much desired lead in the 57th minute as Anthony Martial perfectly collected a pass on the edge of the penalty area from Paul Pogba, then produced a nice strike into the right side of the goal, making the scoreline 0-1 in favour of Manchester United.

In other new year fixture, a Sadio Mane inspired Liverpool side defeated stubborn Burnley 1 - 2 at the Turf Moor, Leicester thrashed Huddersfield 3 - 0 at the King Power stadium, Newcastle showed resilient as they defeated Stoke city 0 - 1 away from home.
