- President Buhari met with members of the African Union (AU's) Peace and Security Council (PSC) to discuss the Boko Haram menace
- The meeting also looked at security situations in different parts of Africa where there are conflicts such as Mali, DR Congo and others
- Presidential aide Shehu said the meeting was held on Saturday, January 27 and preceded kick off the proper summit on Sunday
President Muhammadu Buhari has taken efforts to end Boko Haram menace in Nigeria and Lake Chad basin to the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.
According to a statement by presidential media aide Garba Shehu, President Buhari met with some other African leaders to discuss issues of peace and security in various regions across Africa.
Shehu notes that the discussions are on the sidelines of the summit which kicks off officially on Sunday, January 28 at the Union's headquarters in Ethiopia.

He said: "Ahead of tomorrow’s opening of the 30th African Union Summit, President Muhammadu Buhari starts his four-day engagement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Saturday by joining 14 other members of the Peace and Security Council (PSC), a standing organ of the AU for the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts.
"The meeting is discussing the persistence of violent conflicts and crisis situations in some parts of the continent, upsurge of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and refugees, climate change and its consequences as well as the issue of the derailment of national development programmes.
"The meeting is essentially reviewing the situations in Somalia, South Sudan, Libya, Guinea Bissau, the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

"It is also discussing the situation in Lake Chad Basin, the regional efforts to combat Boko Haram as well as the situation in Mali and the Sahel region which continues to be a source of deep concern despite efforts by the countries of the region and the United Nations.
"The PSC’s major duty is to “conduct early warning and preventive diplomacy, facilitate peace-making, establish peace-support operations and, in certain circumstances, recommend intervention in Member States to promote peace, security and stability.”
The statement comes just as NAIJ.com reported that troops of Operation Lafiya Dole involved in Operation Deep Punch II announced the killing of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in Sambisa forest.
The development was made public in a statement signed by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman, Director Army Public Relations.
Usman disclosed that the troops, with backing from the Nigerian Air Force, carried out the successful operation on Friday afternoon, January 26.
