As the Nigerians continue to lament over the activities of operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), leadership has been identified as the major issue affecting the squad.
Punch reports that a former inspector general of police, Solomon Arase, who made the assertion, asked the police authorities to reshape public perception and redirect the focus of the police unit to its core mandate.
NAIJ.com gathers that Arase, who spoke in Lagos on the sideline of the southwest regional security management course, on Monday, August 27, asked the police authorities to win the public over.

He said: “The uniform or the hood does not make the monk. It is the individuals; the strategic leadership.
“There is no security organisation that can police the security space without the consent of the public. There must be a change in the narrative; the perception of who SARS operatives are have to be changed. Once you are able to win the public to your side, then the issue of perception is settled.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Lagos state police command dismissed four officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The assistant inspector general of police in charge of zone 2 command in Lagos, Adamu Ibrahim on Sunday, July 22, upheld a recommendation of the police disciplinary body that the officers be sacked.
A statement by the police public relations officer in the state, Dolapo Badmus, said the SARS officials were dismissed and subsequently charged to court on offences of armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful detention, intimidation and threatening violence against residents.
