- The Not Too Young To Run movement has distanced itself from a political declaration
- The movement said the presidential declaration by Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki at its event did not get their endorsement
- They expressed disappointment in Saraki's actions, saying the event was meant for dialogue and not political declarations
The Not Too Young To Run campaigners have distanced themselves from the presidential declaration of Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki, which was made at an event the movement organised in Abuja, on Thursday, August 30.
The movement said the event was part of its series of public town hall meetings with the leadership of political parties and young aspirants to address the challenges faced by young aspirants in securing party tickets ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The meetings are part of the movement's efforts to promote youth candidacy and democratic party primaries within political parties under its 'Ready To Run' campaign.

“Whilst addressing participants at the town hall, Senator Saraki declared his intention to run for the office of the president in the 2019 elections.
“The movement wishes to express its disappointment with Senator Saraki for usurping a platform designed for young aspirants to dialogue with party leadership to advance his personal political ambition.
“We strongly condemn this act by the President of the Senate and dissociate ourselves from this political move,” a statement by the youth groups stated.
The movement noted said they are “a non-partisan citizen led movement dedicated to the defense of democracy, political inclusion and transformative leadership,” while restating its commitment “to sustain its engagement with political parties to ensure youth candidacy and democratic party primaries.”

Saraki while announcing his interest in the presidency, said, “the choice Nigerians face in the forthcoming election is either to keep things as they are, or make a radical departure from the old ways.”
He assured his audience that his government will “be a dynamic government of action that will pursue the growth of Nigeria with doggedness, determination and conviction.”
“We shall set targets with clear timelines to ensure that anticipated deliverables are met. You can benchmark us and hold us accountable. In short, I assure you that I will deliver on all promises,” he added.
