The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar has instituted an air crash investigation to determine the remote and immediate causes behind the ill fated crash of the military jet that claimed the life of one pilot.
This was disclosed in statement by Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, the director of public relations and information headquarters f the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Friday, September 28.
Two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) F-7Ni aircraft taking part in the rehearsals for the aerial display to mark Nigeria’s 58th Independence Anniversary Celebrations were involved in an air incident on Friday, September 28.

The air mishap necessitated the 3 pilots to eject from their aircraft, which subsequently crashed in the general area of Katamkpe Hill.
Regrettably, however, one of them later died due to complications from injuries sustained upon impact on the ground. Thankfully, there were no civilian casualties.
Air Marshal Abubakar, on behalf of officers, airmen and airwomen of the NAF, commiserates with the family of the deceased officer.

Meanwhile, the remains of Squadron Leader Bello Mohamed Baba-Ari, the pilot who died during the crash involving two Nigerian Air Force fighter jet on Friday, September 28, was laid to rest at exactly 5:50pm at the Gudu cemetery, Abuja according to Islamic rites.
The body of the pilot arrived the cemetery in a Nigerian Air Force ambulance marked AF 442 at exactly 5:40pm.
The burial ceremony was graced by the Chief of Air Staff; Air Vice Marshal Saddique Abubakar, Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Boss Mustapha, Special Adviser to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, colleagues and family of deceased.

NAIJ.com had earlier reported that as part of the 58th Independence Day celebration, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has started aerial display in Abuja.
NAF called on Abuja residents not to panic as jets will be flying low. It said the aerial display will continue till October 2.
The clarification came after some news media (not NAIJ.com) had earlier reported that fighter jets caused a scare at the National Assembly forcing staff at the complex to flee.
