The Punch newspaper reports that the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress and the party’s governors, on Wednesday, fixed July 29, 2017, for the party’s ward congresses, marking the beginning of the APC’s national convention.

This Day reports that the Senate Wednesday began processes that would grant legal, operational and financial autonomy to the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), leading to its decoupling from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
This in a bid to avert the expulsion of Nigeria from the Egmont Group, a network of 152 financial intelligence units (FIUs) across the world.
The Senate also accused the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, of contributing to Nigeria’s recent suspension from the group by his interference in the operations and staffing of the NFIU, despite claims that the unit was autonomous.

Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of a property on Banana Island, Lagos bought for $37.5m in 2013 by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Justice Chuka Obiozor, a vacation judge, made the order yesterday following an ex parte application by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel Mr. Anselem Ozioko.
The EFCC, in documents filed in court, described the property as Building 3, Block B, Bella Vista Plot 1, Zone N, Federal Government Layout, Banana Island Foreshore Estate. It has 24 apartments, 18 flats and six penthouse, The Nation reports.

Meanwhile, the Senate yesterday directed its committee on health to urgently investigate an allegation that 42 anti-malaria tablets banned by the European Union (EU) in all countries are still being stockpiled, sold and consumed in Nigeria.
The action of the Senate was informed by the adopted motion sponsored by Theodore Orji representing Abia central senatorial district titled, “Anti-malaria tablets banned by European Union, still being sold and consumed in Nigeria; the need for Senate to investigate.”

A report from Vanguard Newspaper claims pandemonium erupted yesterday at Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos, as dozens of articulated truck drivers went on rampage over the death of one of their colleagues and set two bank branches on fire.
