A masquerade in Imo state has allegedly caused the death of a 14-year-old boy who ran in front of a moving car while he was being chased by a masquerade.
It was gathered that the boy was being chased by a masquerade known as Okorodha at Ogbaku, in Owerri West local government area.
According to eyewitness, the young boy was on his way to school around 9:00am when he sighted the masquerade and took flight.

The eyewitness explained that the masquerade took advantage of the boy’s fear and started chasing him till he ran into a moving car.

It was gathered that the masquerade fled the scene leaving the boy to die on the road a few metres from a police station.
Linus Iwuji, another witness noted that the leaders of the community are to blame for the boy’s death because they allow masquerades to roam freely.
He said: “I blame the community leaders for allowing the masqueraders to walk about chasing people. They and their guides even rob at late hours.”

Andrew Enwerem, Imo state police public relations officer confirmed the tragic incident and stated that an investigation has been launched.
