- Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources, in a letter to President Buhari detailed the questionable activities of Maikanti Baru, group managing director of NNPC
The crises rocking the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) seems not to have touched Muhammadu Buhari as the president has refused to respond to the allegations of abuse of contract process to the tune of N9 trillion naira 24 hours after leakage of an internal memo which detailed the allegation.
According to Premium Times, presidential spokespersons, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu, did not pick or return calls, or respond to text messages in relations to the scandal despite concerns emanating from the allegations by Nigerians.

Ibe Kachikwu, minister of State for Petroleum Resources, in a letter to President Buhari and leaked to the media by unknown source alerted the president to the questionable activities of the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru.
According to Kachikwu, Baru awarded contracts running to huge sums without recourse to the ministry of petroleum or the management board of the NNPC.
The contracts include $10 billion crude term contracts; $5 billion direct sales direct purchase (DSDP) contracts and $3 billion AKK pipeline contract.
He also said a $3 billion was awarded as a contract for various financing allocation funding contract and another $3-4 billion NPDC production service contracts.
It's however believed that the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru is close to the president as he was appointed by the him and Buhari's silence will be a huge blow to his anti corruption campaign.
It should also be noted that the NNPC is an agency under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, where Kachikwu serves as minister of state. President Buhari kept the substantive ,minister of petroleum resources post to himself.
