A suspected cattle rustler was killed in Katsina on Sunday, October 29, during an exchange of gunfire between the cattle thieves and police, along the Sakwattawa-Shawere cattle route.
According to reports, the incident was made public by DSP Gambo Isah, the spokesman of the Katsina state police command.

NAIJ.com gathers that Isah disclosed that officers taking part in the Operation Sharan-Daji exercise were dispatched to cattle routes in the area.
The gunfire ensued as the suspected rustlers opened fire on the policemen after sighting them; leading to the death of one of the suspects.
The others reportedly fled from the scene.
Narrating how the incident unfolded, Isah stated: “One Ibrahim Gai of Aidun Hassan Village in the Danmusa Local Government Area of the state had reported to the police that some unidentified cattle rustlers invaded their settlement at about 3.30am on October 23, 2017 and stole their livestock.”
The policeman further disclosed that investigations had commenced into the matter, and various weapons had been recovered from the suspects.
In his words: “One AK-47 with 16 rounds of live ammunition, two magazines, four cows and one Boxer motorcycle with chassis number 60927 were recovered from the fleeing cattle rustlers.”

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that cattle rustlers killed two persons and set houses ablaze in Kamarawa village, Isa Local Government Area, Sokoto state.
The spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, El-Mustapha Sani, confirmed the deaths in an interview with reporters.
Sani said that the criminals came to the village on motorcycles, armed with dane-guns and other locally-made weapons.
