Two horse-riding Boko Haram members fleeing from military clearance operation on their hideout at a Borno town have been killed by Nigerian soldiers.
This was revealed by the Nigerian Army in a statement sent to journalists by the army deputy director, 8 Task Force Division, Monguno, Borno state, Colonel Timothy Antigha.
According to the statement, the insurgents fleeing on horse were gunned down by military troops during a fierce battle at Gambo Yukku forest in Gubio, northern part of Borno.

“Troops were on routine patrol in Aisaram village, Gubio local government area, as part of the clearance operations, when at about 6:20 am this morning, 2 Boko Haram terrorists riding horses attempted to outflank them, but were spotted by vigilant troops and shot during the fire fight,” the statement said.
The statement further said troops recovered an AK 47 riffle, a magazine with a single round of 7.62 millimeters ammunition and 2 machetes from the insurgents.
The incident is coming barely a day after troops of 112 Task Force Battalion of 22 Brigade on Operation Lafiya Dole ambushed another group of Boko Haram terrorists.
According to a statement by the director, army public relations, Brigadier-General SK Usman, the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, October 26, in furtherance of the ongoing clearance operation in the area.
“The terrorists were attempting to cross into Sambisa forest through Lumda village, some few kilometres away from Maiduguri - Dikwa Road in Borno state.
“The troops sprung the ambush on the unsuspecting terrorist and neutralized 3 of them, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
“The troops further recovered 5 bicycles, mechanic tools, sacks containing various items and some mosquito nets from the ambush site,” the statement said.
