Following a petition written by former first lady, Patience Jonathan, the House of Representatives has threatened to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
According to the New Telegraph, the House is threatening to take such action following Magu’s failure to honour the invitation extended to him by the Committee on Public Petitions, over Mrs. Jonathan’s petition.
The former first lady had petitioned the lower legislative chamber over the freezing of her accounts by the anti-corruption agency, and what she described as ‘harassment’ by the agency.

NAIJ.com gathers that the new development was made public by Hon. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (PDP-Abia), the chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions.
Abonta stated that Magu had greatly disrespected the House by refusing to honour its invitation, and revealed that his committee planned to issue the warrant to compel the EFCC boss to appear before it, on Tuesday, November 7.
He stated: “There is a need to say that people should work within the confines of the law because nobody is above the law
“EFCC has consistently absented itself from this hearing.
“If it were here, perhaps we would have dispensed with this investigation.
“What the EFCC is doing is not only unfair but disrespectful to the parliament.”
At its last sitting 2 weeks ago, the committee had ordered 6 banks to defreeze all bank accounts belonging to Mrs. Jonathan.
However, Charles Ogboli, counsel to the former first lady, disclosed that so far, only 2 banks had complied with the directive issued by the committee.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that Mrs Patience Jonathan petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, asking him to call Ibrahim Magu, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC), to order.
The former first lady accused Magu of relentlessly prosecuting a plot to destroy her family, stressing that Magu’s vindictive disposition towards the former First Family was portraying the EFCC as an agency out for revenge.
