The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that it is only carrying out its duties under the law, as regards the recall process initiated against Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West).
The Commission's position on the hot-bed issue was made known in a statement released by Solomon Soyebi, its national commissioner in charge of publicity.

NAIJ.com notes that Soyebi stated that the Commission had no sinister motive whatsoever for carrying on with the process which was initiated by some of Melaye’s constituents.
Soyebi registered INEC’s displeasure at being unable to serve the senator with the petition for his recall so far.
He disclosed that on 6 different occasions, Melaye had evaded service.
He stated: “All attempts to serve the senator have been futile as he has made himself unavailable.
“The Bailiff of the High Court, accompanied by INEC officials, have visited the office of the senator at the National Assembly and his residence on six occasions, but found the office locked.
“On resumption of the Senate after its recess, the senator refused to accept service of the documents.
“INEC does not have any interest whatsoever in the outcome of the Kogi west petition for recall.
“Its interest is limited to ensuring all electoral activities are undertaken in line with due process and without fear or favour.”

Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission withdrew its motion seeking an order of the Federal High Court in Abuja to allow it serve Dino Melaye the recall petition through substituted service.
This was due to the fact that the senator had taken the case to the Court of Appeal.
