The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, December 22, arrested a farmer from Nasarawa state for attempting to defraud Governor Tanko Al Makura of the sum of N8 million.
The suspect, Mohammed Momoh, claimed to be a 'private investigator' from the villa' approached the governor's wife with a proposition to help stop a purported investigation of two accounts belonging to the governor, by the EFCC.

Sahara Reporters reports that Momoh claimed he came across information regarding the two accounts that had been under investigation since 2011 and also intercepted emails and gotten wind of investigation report purportedly sent to First Bank by the EFCC.

The EFCC head of media, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspect had requested for N8 million but was offered N6 million. Suspicious about the proposal, the governor’s family contacted the Commission and were asked to play along with the suspect. The suspect was arrested in a sting operation after he collected marked N2 million.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the EFCC, Lagos zonal office, has arrested 13 suspected Internet fraudsters for conspiracy, possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money under false pretence.
They were arrested on Saturday, December 16, 2017 in some parts of Lagos and Ogun states, following intelligence report received by the Commission about their activities.
The suspects allegedly confessed to be involved in phishing, love scam, forgery, spoofing and business email compromise, among other offences.
