- US warned its citizens to lay low and avoid public places like malls, hotels and shopping centers among others
- US and UK said the terrorists have said they would attack Abuja, Nigeria's capital hence the high alert
- The US is also not ruling out attacks in these northern states: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, and Yobe
The United States of America (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) have warned their citizens in Nigeria of impending attacks by Boko Haram terrorists in Abuja and some other areas.
In a statement acquired by NAIJ.com and posted to the official website of the American embassy in Nigeria, the US warned its citizens to be very careful during the yuletide citizen, particularly around the period of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The statement read: "The U.S. Mission urges all U.S. citizens to exercise caution in and around shopping centers, malls, markets, hotels, places of worship, restaurants, bars, and other places where crowds gather in and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from now through the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.
"Terrorist groups have threatened to conduct bombings and attacks in this area during this period.
"The U.S. Mission remains concerned about potential attacks in the states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, and Yobe. Travelers are urged to avoid those states through the end of the year.

"Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security."
On its part, the UK wrote on the official government website www.gov.uk that there is a rise in risk of attacks during the yuletide. It also pointed out that Abuja is a potential target.
The statement read: "The risk of terrorist attack increases around religious festivals, so will be elevated in the run up to and throughout the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
"Terrorist groups have threatened to conduct bombings and attacks in the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) area during this period.
"You should avoid places where crowds gather, including religious gatherings and places of worship, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, transport hubs and camps for displaced people."
While the US warning was issued on November 29, 2017, the UK one was issued on December 1, 2017.

Just on Saturday, December 2, suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly attack in Biu, Borno state resulting in the death of 13 persons while 53 others were injured.
In a statement by Victor Isuku, who is the police spokesperson of the Borno state command, he said the attack took place the same day.
According to the police spokesperson, the attack was perpetuated by two female bombers.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com reported earlier that President Muhammadu Buhari assured Nigerians that the country will overcome the menace of terrorist attacks.
He said this in a brief statement he issued on Sunday, December 3 to commiserate with the families of those that lost loved ones in the Biu attack on Saturday.
