A police officer, DCP Abduyari Lafia, has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, is after him because he failed to remit bribes to the police chief.

Lafia had successfully investigated fraud cases amounting to more than N360 million had served as chief of criminal intelligence of the Nigerian police until he was redeployed to police college, Kano, Tribune reports.
The police officer claimed that the IGP ordered for investigations into how he managed series of corruption cases referred to the police in recent months after he refused to give proceeds of bribe, popularly known as ‘returns’ to IGP Ibrahim Idris.
He said: “The reason for my current travail is that I refused to be a conduit pipe in conveying monies as proceeds of bribe, popularly known as ‘returns’ to IGP Ibrahim Idris on high- profile fraud and corruption cases running into billions of naira and millions of Dollars, which I have, at one time or the other, investigated or provided intelligence for investigators on.”
The officer further accused the IGP covering up series of fraud cases referred to the police.
He said a fraud case of over N32b which was reported by a whistle blower was covered up by the police.

The petitioner pleaded with the president to protect his life and that of his family.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, said corruption has drastically reduced among police personnel despite several allegations of bribery and corruption against the force.
Premium Times reports that Idris made this known on Tuesday, November 28 at a stakeholder’s workshop tagged “Speaking for the Nigerian Police Force” organised by CLEEN foundation held at Nicon Luxury Hotels, Abuja.
NAIJ.com gathered that the forum is a two-day capacity building training on “Effectiveness communication and public relations in Nigeria” under its law enforcement and public engagement project in Nigeria organised for police spokespersons.
The IGP, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Habila Joshack, said public relations department of the Nigeria police force is relentless on its effort to forestall further denting of its public image.
