Two first class graduates from Imo State University (IMSU), received mere handshake at their convocation ceremony in Owerri.
The ceremony was reported to have taken place on Thursday, November 30, when the institution held a twin induction ceremony for its Medical Laboratory Science and Optometry graduates.
According to Obi Bright Chinweuba who shared the information on his Facebook profile, he disclosed that the graduates should have been given a better reward for a country where TV reality winners go home with millions of naira.

His post reads: “Two First Class Graduates From Medical Laboratory Science Department in IMSU Given Mere Handshake And No Cash Reward From The Institution: Imo State University Owerri, on Thursday, held a twin induction ceremony for its Medical Laboratory Science and Optometry graduates. Medical Laboratory Science produced two first class graduates and surprisingly they only received just handshake and paper piece award. For a country where winners of reality TV shows go home with millions of naira as reward for their efforts while people who made giant strides in their educational pursuit are giving a ‘handshake, then we know that we are really the architect of our problem. The two students, Mbionwu Ugochukwu and Ononuju Ugochukwu Alozie both made a cumulative CGPA of 4.62, the best ever in the department, had their expectations dashed as the institution showed once again that there is really no reward for hardwork in Nigeria as not even a cash price of as little as N5000 was given to them. Only in Imo State University! Only in Nigeria!”
