Turkish police have detained 311 people over social media posts related to Turkey’s military operation in a Kurdish-held enclave in Northern Syria.

The interior minister, Suleyman Soyl said on Monday, January 29, that those detained were accused of spreading terrorist propaganda, Vanguard reports.
NAIJ.com gathered that Turkey’s operation was launched on Saturday, January 27, against the Kurdish YPG militia. Ankara considers the group a terrorist organisation.
It was learnt that there have been detentions since the onset of the military operation, including journalists critical of the government’s military moves, though some have since been released. Those also in detention were members of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).
Meanwhile, the HDP said on Monday, January 29, that its offices in the Pendik district of Istanbul were attacked and set on fire by unknown people.

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that the Turkish president, Recep Erdogan, said that the number of people who were arrested in Turkey following the attempted coup had increased to 10,410.
Erdogan said that he number was at about 9,000, adding that the 4,060 people who were arrested earlier had been placed in detention.
Erdogan had said that the suspects were behind the failed July 15, 2017 coup; but the development had disturbed many of Turkey’s Western allies who said they see the country going down. Read more:
